Abstract
Oil was discovered in Mexico after the turn of the twentieth century, with the first commercial oil production drilled and completed in the Ebano-Panuco field in the Tampico Basin in 1901. The country is the fourth largest oil producer in the American continent after the United States (US), Canada, and Brazil, holding 56.75 billion barrels, of which 12.13 billion are still underground.
