Bronopol Market Size
The Global Bronopol Market reached US$ 1190 million in 2023 and is expected to reach US$ 1708.56 million by 2031, growing at a CAGR of 4.7% during the forecast period 2024-2031.
Bronopol, or 2-Bromo-2-nitro-1,3-propanediol, is an organic compound with wide-spectrum antimicrobial properties. First synthesized in 1897, bronopol was primarily used as a preservative for pharmaceuticals and was registered in the United States in 1984 for use in industrial bactericides, slimicides, and preservatives. Bronopol is used as a microbicide or microbiostat in various commercial and industrial applications, including oil field systems, air washer systems, air conditioning or humidifying systems, cooling water systems, papermills, absorbent clays, metal working fluids, printing inks, paints, adhesives, and consumer products.
The inhibitory activity against various bacteria, including Pseudomonas aeruginosa, was demonstrated in vitro. The agent is largely available commercially as an antibacterial for a variety of industrial purposes while it is predominantly available for purchase as a pet animal litter antibacterial at the domestic consumer level.
Market Dynamics: Drivers
Increasing demand for drinking water across the world
The demand for the bronopol market is driven by multiple factors. The increase in demand for drinking water all across the world propels the market growth. Bronopol plays a vital role in water purification procedures.
The rise in industrialization is also one of the driving factors that is propelling the market. In various pharmaceutical industries, advancements are taking place and bronopol is used in the pharmaceutical industries as anti anti-bacterial agent. Developments and advancements in the fields of paint and adhesive manufacturing companies, oil and gas companies, and chemical manufacturing industries are also an important driving factor that propels the bronopol market. Bronopol helps in maintaining sanitation at the workplace and production processes.
The increase in health awareness among consumers regarding the diseases caused by water-borne pathogens and bacterial growth is catalyzing the market growth.
Restraints
Factors such as adverse effects and risks related to bronopol direct contact and exposure and the high cost associated with bronopol are expected to hamper the market.
Market Segment Analysis
The Bronopol market is segmented based on form, type, application, end-user, and region.
The segment water treatment accounted for approximately 47.9% of the bronopol market share
The water treatment segment is expected to hold the largest market share over the forecast period. In this segment, the increase in need for the drinking water throughout the world among the global population would drive this market.
Bronopol plays a vital role in the water treatment to obtain pure drinking water. The global water demand has increased by 600% over the past 100 years. This corresponds to an annual increment rate of 1.8% per annum. Bronopol is used extensively in water treatment applications and, like DBNPA, has seen some applications in the oilfield. Bronopol is particularly effective against Pseudomonas bacteria. The compound appears to function by differing mechanisms depending on whether conditions are aerobic or anaerobic.
Bronopol is not a fast-acting biocide. The compound may release formaldehyde upon decomposition, but the formaldehyde is not responsible for the biocidal properties. Bronopol will hydrolyze in aqueous solutions, with the rate being much faster at alkaline pH. Increasing temperature also increases the hydrolysis rate. The optimum pH range for bronopol efficacy is 5-9. Bronopol will react with and become deactivated by sulfides and sulfite-based reducing agents.
Market Geographical Share
North America accounted for approximately 42.3% of the bronopol market share
North America region is expected to hold the largest market share over the forecast period. The increase in demand for drinking water, and increase in the industrialization, especially in the oil and gas sector and pharmaceutical industries sector in this region, help to propel the market.
The US is the largest producer of gas and oil which encompasses both refining of petroleum and the oil and gas production industries. Bronopol is used in many industrial procedures like in the oil and gas industry to stop corrosion in hydraulic fracturing equipment that is caused due to bacterial contamination. So by using the bronopol, the bacterial contamination can be removed.
Market Competitive Landscape
The major global players in the bronopol market include DOW Chemical Company, Mani Agro Chemicals, Wuhan Fortuna Chemical, Gayathri Chemicals, Sharon Laboratories, Sai Supreme Chemicals, BQ Technology (HK) Company, BASF, Shanghai Rich Chemicals, Symbolic Pharma among others.
