Worldwide Hard Disk Drive 1Q25 Preliminary Shipment Results

This IDC Market Perspective provides a preliminary unit shipment range for worldwide hard disk drive (HDD) units by HDD drive class and estimated supplier market share for 1Q25."HDD shipments appear poised to be down in the 1Q25 period as a combination of supply chain issues, seasonality, and lumpy cloud demand impact the industry temporarily," according to Ed Burns, research director, Worldwide Hard Disk Drive and Storage Technologies at IDC. "With a great deal of uncertainty around the near-term impacts of tariffs, HDD industry exabyte shipments are currently expected to resume growth for the remainder of 2025, driven by strong demand at the highest capacity points."
