IMTS 2024: An Exhibition of IT/OT Convergence and Industrial Ecosystems

This IDC Market Note summarizes the International Manufacturing Technology Show (IMTS) held in Chicago, Illinois, September 9-14, 2024. The show has traditionally been focused exclusively on niche manufacturing operational technologies, mostly mechanical, in years past. However, as technology capabilities and requirements for manufacturing operations have evolved so has the show. Core to this evolution is the entrance of more IT providers with IT-like technologies designed to aggregate, move, and analyze operational data in new and expanded ways and the IT/OT ecosystems they create.
