This IDC Market Note highlights some of the announcements from 2H23 to 1Q24 and their implications for players in the search and knowledge discovery market. Vector search, while not itself a new technology, has recently emerged as a key enabling technology for generative AI in the enterprise. It supports retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) by retrieving a relevant subset of information from a data source and feeding it to an LLM to further augment the LLM's existing, pretrained knowledge.
