Oxygen therapy is defined as a technique of delivering higher pressures of oxygen to the body's tissues for the purpose of wound healing. There are two methods of administration, systemic oxygen therapy, or also known as hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT), and topical oxygen therapy.
Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT) treats conditions such as carbon monoxide poisoning, diabetic foot ulcers, arterial gas embolism, wound healing, autism spectrum disorder (ASD), skin graft or flap risks, near-drowning complications, decompression sickness, and severe anemia. HBOT involves intermittent inhalation of 100% oxygen at pressures greater than 1 atm. There are two types of hyperbaric oxygen chambers: Monoplace, a long plastic tube for one person resembling an MRI machine, and Multiplace, which accommodates two or more patients.
