A condom is a thin, fitted tube worn over the penis during sex or inserted into the vagina before sex. They create a barrier that keeps semen and other body fluids from the vagina, rectum, or mouth. Condoms effectively prevent STDs (Sexually Transmitted Diseases) like gonorrhea, herpes, chlamydia, and HIV, etc.

For example, condoms are practically 100% effective at protecting against HIV. They prevent STDs (sexually transmitted infections) and pregnancy. Male condoms are about 98% effective at preventing pregnancy. Female condoms are about 95% effective when used correctly. They work only 79% of the time if it's not used in the right way.

Increasing awareness of HIV and other STDs among Young People

Awareness among the young population is necessary as they drive the world forward. The government is actively raising awareness among the people with webinars, awareness weeks, etc. For instance, National HIV/AIDS and Aging Awareness Day (NHAAD) is recognized annually on September 18 to bring attention to the growing number of people living long and full lives with HIV. Increasing Product Launches

New products are launched at a fast pace by several companies increasing the quality of the product. Condoms come in a wide variety of sizes and flavors, which makes the condom market constantly booming. Many key companies, such as Mankind Pharma and Reckitt Benckiser Group PLC, are improving their products frequently.

Risks Associated with Condoms

Incorrect removal and disposal of the condom may cause unintended pregnancy and infections. Those with latex allergies may not be able to use regular condoms. An alternative would be to use polyurethane condoms or condoms made out of lambskin. These are more expensive than the regular condoms. For instance, according to a WebMD article, for females who don't always use female condoms the right way, about 21 out of 100 women will get pregnant every year. For male condom users, that number is 18.

In another prospective study, none of the men using condoms developed chlamydial infections compared to 6.3% among nonusers. Syphilis transmission is reduced by 29% for typical use. It is reduced by 50-71% when condoms are used 100% of the time correctly. Protection against STDs is one of the leading factors for the usage of male condoms among the population. Geographical Analysis

According to a National Center for Biotechnology Information 2023 article, nearly 22% of adolescent females used effective birth control, 67% of adolescent males used a condom, and 62% of teenage females (or their partners) at risk for unintended pregnancy used a most/moderately effective method of contraception that is condoms. Only around 10% of sexually active American women were actively trying to conceive or were already pregnant and, hence, were not using contraceptives.
